Squares Within Squares Quilt


Learn how to make this Squares Within Squares quilt using precuts. You will need 42 blocks for this quilt. Each block requires 1- 5″ square and 1 – 10″ square. If buying yardage, you’ll need 1/4 yard each of 14 different fabrics. (You’ll have extra fabric but all your blocks will be different.)

Fabric/Batting: (100% cotton works best!)

  • 1 package of 5″ charm squares (42 squares)
  • 1 package of 10″ charm squares (42 squares) OR 1 package of jellyrolls* (2 1/2″ strips)
  • 1 3/4 yard of 108″ wide cotton backing for back of quilt
  • 1 3/4 yard of batting

Cutting Tools:

  • fabric scissors/square template OR
  • rotary cutter, acrylic ruler and self healing mat


  • neutral color of thread
  • pins
  • 8 yards of double fold binding/or use extra backing fabric to make binding

* Quilt will be 51″ by 59 1/2″
