After pressing, go back to the cutting board. Trim off any excess. You might decide that you want to have different angles on your piece so you can start trimming at this point or you can just trim off the excess. I am going to trim a different angle here.

Lay your piece with the last log sewn on top. Your third log will be from the opposite color family. Lay it on the right side, put right sides together. I have decided I don’t like that angle and I want to try something different. So I can move my piece, as long as I have one straight side to follow. And when I am finished, I can trim off any excess.

I prefer not to pin, but it’s up to you. I have this flat surface that helps me keep the pieces in place- so I usually go with no pins. I have my leader, and I am going to sew a ¼ (quarter) inch seam, my follower end, and now I am ready to go press.

Before I press, I want trim off this excess. I am going to lay this on the cutting board, trim and now I am ready to go press.

I’ve pressed my piece and now I am ready to trim off any extra. There is no right or wrong way to do this, it’s what’s pleasing to you. So let me take the ruler, and I think there is too much of this fabric so let me trim. I am going to trim this way, and just to make it easy I am going to go that way. I think I will trim some more of this off. Maybe I don’t like that purple like that so I am going to trim. And let’s trim like this. So remember, there is no right or wrong way to do this, you just trim what you like.

Now I am ready for my next piece. I am going to place the last log sewn on the top. I have done two blues and now I am ready to do two of the warm colors. I am going to pick this piece. I am going to put it on the right side and I like to pull this up a …

… little bit because I like to have a little extra room, I am going to put right sides together.

Notice I have not trimmed this off. You do not have to trim off the bottom if you find it is easier to handle to sew it and then trim it off. So I am going to take this over to my sewing machine. Notice I am not going to use any pins- I am using this flat surface here to help me. I have my feeder piece in and I am ready to sew my ¼ (quarter) inch seam. When I have sewn all the way through I can come off now. I really don’t need the follower, but it just helps.

So I have got my piece like this, I am not going to have to trim anything here so I can go straight to the pressing board. I am going to press, pull back my log and now I have one complete rotation.
