Quilt Pattern: Log Cabin Star Quilt
Quilt Size: 58 inches by 58 inches
Quilt Maker: Ann Tarabini
Quilt Completion Date: 2004
Extra Information: Years ago I saw this quilt in a magazine. Not long after, I saw another quilt like this haging in my neighborhood quilt shop. Eventually I decided to use my red, white and blue scraps to make one for my home.
I made my own pattern. (I think the original quilt blocks were larger than mine.) The log cabins in the center (see closeup photo below) are foundation pieced. I added blue stars to half of the blocks and red stars to the other half.
I think my blocks sat for about 5 years before I finally decided on the sashing and borders. I used a favorite cowboy print fabric for the back of the quilt (pictured below). I decided to try “iron-on batting” for the fill. I was not pleased with the results. I thought I would not have to pin baste if using this batting but instead I found myself using many safety pins. I also did not like the stiffness of the batting.
